What RecallScope does — and what it does not do

A clear guide to tracking, alerts and the limits of the information we show.

A scan is a check, not a subscription

A barcode scan can help identify a product and check available recall information, but scanning a barcode does not currently create ongoing monitoring of that exact barcode.

The scanner and local scan history are available in Free. You can add a product's brand to your Watchlist after a scan.

What can trigger a Watchlist alert

Brands

Follow a brand for matching recalls, subject to your selected alert markets.

Keywords

Follow keywords when they match the keywords assigned to a processed recall.

VINs

Follow a VIN when an official notice supplies an exact VIN that RecallScope can match.

What it does not monitor continuously

  • A barcode scan is a one-time lookup. It does not start ongoing monitoring of that barcode or product.
  • You cannot set a separate ongoing tracker for a product, model, SKU or batch. Check these identifiers on the official notice.
  • VIN alerts are confirmed for exact VIN data in processed recalls. A published VIN range may not produce an alert for every affected vehicle.

Free and Pro in the app

Free includes five Watchlist items in total and alerts for one home country. Once every 365 days, a Travel Pass adds one more country for 14 days. Pro removes the app's Watchlist and supported-country limits and adds notification controls and filters. Recall information on this website remains free.

Browsing and alerts are different

The website lets you browse supported recall feeds for Australia, Canada, France, Germany, New Zealand, the UK and the US without an account. App alert markets depend on the published app version, your settings and your plan. A visible recall does not guarantee a push alert: the source, record and match must pass processing checks.

Alerts follow source updates

Sources update on different schedules. A recall must be collected, processed and eligible before a matching alert can be sent. Quiet hours and batching can delay delivery. We cannot promise an instant alert or a fixed number of minutes after publication.

Risk labels are estimates

RecallScope presents a normalized risk estimate to help you scan notices. It is not the regulator's own classification and does not replace the official notice. Open the source link for the authority's wording and instructions.

English and original text

When an approved English translation is available, we show it on the recall detail page. Use “View original” there to read the source-language text when provided. Translation may be unavailable while a record is being processed; always verify important details on the official notice.
