The product is being recalled because the indicator status on the inflator may show the life jacket is ready for use (green or partially green) even when the gas cylinder is empty, removed, or not connected properly. The life jacket cannot inflate if the gas cylinder is not connected. The recall follows an advisory from American supplier, Halkey Roberts, (https://www.productsafety.govt.nz/recalls/halkey-roberts-3f-single-point-manual-inflator ) of potential failure during testing of the green/red indicator. This is reported as an occasional issue only affecting some units. Whilst the firing pin mechanism still functions, the indicator on some units may give a false reading e.g. Showing green when it should be red due to the cylinder not being screwed in correctly or having been pierced previously. As a result the lifejacket may not inflate as expected when it shows green. There is a risk of injury or accident including drowning if: The attached gas cylinder is empty, removed or not connected properly The life jacket does not inflate as expected when the manual inflator is deployed The user does not otherwise use the manual oral inflation alternative.
