An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Mercury Diesel 3.0L TDI (Turbo Direct Injected) 230hp & 260hp Marine Engines. Marine Power International has identified a situation whereby the oil supply line to the turbocharger could loosen. This issue may affect all engines, regardless of the engine run-time or service history. Loosening of the oil supply line can allow engine oil to leak onto hot engine components and can cause an odour, smoke and possibly a fire. Published 2015-02-12.
What to do now
The engine should not be operated until it has been inspected and rectified. People with an affected engine should contact their nearest Mercury Diesel Dealer who will arrange for the engine to be inspected and rectified at the expense of Marine Power International Pty Ltd.
