An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Holstens - Outdoor Festoon / Bistro Lights. Some of the Edison fittings have been fitted with reverse polarity. If someone attempts to remove a globe while the power is connected, and touches the metal side of the globe fitting while it is still in contact with the holder, they may experience an electric shock. Published 2017-04-19.
What to do now
Stop using these products and do not attempt to change the globes while the string of lights is connected to the power. Consumers can return the lights to the place of purchase for a full refund or a correctly configured and certified replacement product (when available).
