An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Haier top load washing machines. Risk of Fire: The wires inside the machine between the cabinet and the washing bowl can become fatigued and fracture over time and cause arcing. Published 2015-11-25.

Until your machine is repaired, only use it if you are nearby to monitor it. If you have any concerns or smell smoke, turn the washer off at the wall and unplug it. Do not use the machine again until it has been inspected by an approved technician.
