An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Freedom Furniture, "Utility" style dining chairs. When the chairs are used incorrectly, the tapering of the inside bottom of a chair leg may lead to an entrapment or laceration hazard. Published 2016-05-10.
What to do now
Contact Freedom to get a free DIY plug insert kit. The plugs need to be inserted into the legs of the chairs. Once plugs have been inserted the safety risk is eliminated. To order a free plug insert kit email steelchairs@freedom.com.au or visit a Freedom store. Alternatively you can: - Exchange your Utility chairs for our current Laurent mode l available in two colours. The Laurent chair looks similar but does not pose the same safety risk as the design of the inner lower leg is different, or - Return you Utility chairs to a Freedom store for a refund.
