An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Cub Cadet Pro Z 100 S Series Commercial Ride On Lawn Mowers. The Mower was incorrectly supplied with a single direction vented fuel cap. The proper fuel cap should be a dual direction vented fuel cap. Pressure may build up inside the fuel tank and fuel might escape if the fuel cap is released too quickly, potentially causing an injury. If an ignition source is nearby, and fuel escapes, there exists a potential fire hazard. Published 2019-01-15.
What to do now
Consumers should exercise caution when using their mower. MTD will send replacement dual direction vented fuel caps, free of charge, via post. If consumers plan on using their mower in the interim, they should: • Store the mower in a cool place, preferably indoors, out of direct sunlight. • Not fill the fuel tanks more than half way. Wipe up any fuel spillage and wait at least 5 minutes before starting the mower. • Maintain a firm grip on the fuel cap and slowly loosen it in order to allow any pressure build up to release. • If fuel starts to escape, tighten the fuel cap and contact MTD immediately.
