Ski-doo - Bombardier recreational products

Critical riskHealth Canada

An official Health Canada notice concerns Ski-doo - Bombardier recreational products. Certain snowmobiles were manufactured, or repaired under TC recall 2008-113, with improper fuel hoses which do not meet the electrically dissipative (ED) requirement stamped on the hose. Under specific conditions, this may result in explosion of the fuel tank. Should the vehicle be left idling in temperatures of less than -30 degrees Celsius, with less than 50% relative humidity, a build-up of static electricity in the fuel system may result in a spark discharge which can ignite the air fuel mixture inside the tank. An explosion could cause personal injury or death to a bystander or operator, as well as allowing fuel spillage, which may result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel line and filter assembly with a revised version having higher electrical conductivity. This will allow a proper ground path for fuel system components to the chassis, thereby preventing electrostatic accumulation, and subsequent discharge. Published 2011-02-15.
