An official Health Canada notice concerns Polaris. Issue: Operating your snowmobile with a low fuel level after long-term storage could create increased risk of an electrostatic discharge (spark) inside the fuel tank. If this happens, vapours may be ignited inside the fuel tank, and the tank could rupture. Note: This recall replaces Transport Canada recall 2022-448. For 2015-2023 model year snowmobiles, the recall repairs completed by a Polaris dealer during recall S-22-09 (Transport Canada recall number 2022-448) may not have been effective. As a result, Polaris has issued updated fuel recommendations. Safety Risk: A spark inside the fuel tank could cause an explosion and a fire. Corrective Actions: Polaris will notify owners by mail and provide you with an add-on to the owner's manual and a new recommended fuel label and instructions for installing it. To reduce the safety risk, Polaris recommends that you only use gasoline with 10% ethanol (E10) and 91 octane or greater for the 600 Indy cross-country model or for snowmobiles with a Patriot boost or Patriot 9R engine. For all other affected models, Polaris recommends only using gasoline with 10% ethanol (E10) and 87 octane or greater. If only non-ethanol (E0) fuel is available, Polaris advises that you should add anti-static fuel treatment and stabilizer additive. Published 2024-08-06.
