An official Health Canada notice concerns E-nrg bioethanol fuel recalled. The affected product is a container of pourable alcohol-based fuel that is not equipped with a flame arrestor that meets the performance criteria outlined in ASTM F3429 / F3429M – 20, Standard Specification for Performance of Flame Mitigation Devices Installed in Disposable and Pre-Filled Flammable Liquid Containers, or the equivalent. As a result, it could contribute to a flame jetting incident. Health Canada advised Canadians on October 9, 2019 of serious fire and burn risks that are associated with the use of portable products that use certain containers of pourable alcohol-based fuels that are not equipped with a flame arrestor. A fire or burn hazard, called flame jetting, occurs when fuel vapours around a poured fuel stream ignite when a user refuels a portable fire product that is still burning or hot, and a flame is not readily visible. This can result in a burst of flaming fuel being rapidly expelled out of the container and travelling a distance dangerous to the user and bystanders. Flame jetting occurs very quickly, so the user and/or bystanders are unable to react quickly enough to move away from an incoming flame jet. There have been numerous reported incidents of serious injuries, including fatalities in Canada from flame jetting events. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and dispose of it according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines. If the recalled product was purchased from Luxury Fire, consumers can contact Luxury Fire for more information by email at sales@luxuryfirecanada.com. If the recalled product was purchased from Canadian Tire, consumers can contact Canadian Tire for more information by telephone at 1-800-387-8803, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. To 9:00 p.m. EST and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. To 5:00 p.m. EST. Consumers can also visit the company website. If the recalled product was purchased from Home Hardware, consumers can contact Home Hardware for more information by telephone at 1-877-940-5081, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. ET, or by email at contactus@homehardware.ca. Consumers can also visit the company website. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
