On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch may prematurely corrode and stick in the open position. If this were to occur while the primary latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly while the vehicle is being driven. This could compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the striker with a new part which has superior corrosion protection. Published 2022-08-26.
