An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Yoto Mini Audio Device. The Yoto Mini is powered by an integral non-replaceable lithium-pouch battery - it has been identified that the battery in Yoto Minis with serial numbers commencing 1FE – 8FE sold between 24 November 2021 and November 2023 may have a defect which causes the battery to overheat (go into thermal runaway) when at a certain state of charge which could become a fire hazard.If the battery component of the Yoto Mini overheats during charging, it could get very hot or ignite which could cause a fire, burns, scalds or other injuries caused by heat or fire. What to do now
If you have purchased a Yoto Mini between 24 November 2021 – November 2023 with the serial numbers commencing 1FE – 8FE, you should: 1. Immediately stop using the Yoto Mini and disconnect it from any power sources; 2. Visit https://uk.yotoplay.com/recall and log in or register for an account to order a free replacement Yoto Mini Smart Cable - you will need the email address that your Yoto Mini is registered with to log in. Once logged in to the product recall website, you will need to input your Yoto Mini serial number, and then order your free Yoto Mini Smart Cable - the replacement charging cable has been developed by Yoto with independent battery and product safety experts. The smart cable contains a microprocessor chip that is able to restrict the Yoto Mini battery charge within safe limits, and charging will also stop if a fault has been detected. The replacement smart cable alongside the software update will help prevent the battery in the Yoto Mini from potentially overheating by stopping it from charging when it reaches a certain point; 3. Once the new cable has been received, only use the new Yoto Mini Smart Cable to charge the Yoto Mini; 4. Use safe charging practices - visit https://uk.yotoplay.com/legal/product-safety for guidance on how to charge the Yoto Mini safely.
