Last checked

An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Volcom - Surf Vitals Changing Towel. The products are being recalled because they do not comply with the requirements of the mandatory safety standard for nightwear for children, as the products do not have the required fire hazard labelling (red Category 4 - High Fire Hazard Label) to inform consumers about the potential fire risks associated with the products. The products pose a fire hazard due to the absence of the required fire hazard labelling (red Category 4 - High Fire Hazard Label) required by the mandatory safety standard for nightwear for children. Types of Injuries: The lack of proper fire hazard warnings (in this case, red Category 4 - High Fire Hazard Label) can lead to severe injuries such as burns or, in extreme cases, death. Children wearing the hooded towel may be at higher risk of these injuries if the product comes into contact with an open flame or other sources of ignition. Circumstances of Risk: The risk occurs primarily when the hooded towel is used in environments where there is a potential for exposure to fire, such as near fireplaces, firepits, barbecues, candles, or other household heat sources. Without the fire hazard labelling (in this case, red Category 4 - High Fire Hazard Label), parents or caregivers may not be aware of the necessary precautions to prevent fire injury risk Published 2024-08-27.

What to do now

Consumers should immediately cease using the product and contact the Supplier for one of the following options (upon return of the recalled product): (i) A full refund; or (ii) Areplacement compliant product, in exchange for the recalled product they currently have.
