An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns TOSHIBA Laptop/Notebook Battery Packs - Expanded recall action. The affected batteries may overheat because of a short circuit. If batteries overheat, they can be fire and burn hazard to consumers. This recall is an extension of a previous Toshiba laptop battery recall in January 2016. Published 2016-11-21.
What to do now
1. Visit the Toshiba website to validate if your Battery Pack is affected. 2. If affected you will be asked to register to receive a free replacement Battery. 3. Turn your PC off, switch off at the wall, unplug the AC adaptor and remove your battery. You can use your computer on the AC adaptor without the battery.
