An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns ProtectorAl Balustrade Posts- sold at Bunnings. The product does not meet the New Zealand Building Code, meaning the up to 107mm gap between the post and first vertical picket at each end of the panel could result in a child being able to fit through the gap and fall from a height. When ProtectorAl Balustrade Posts are used in combination with ProtectorAl 1800mm wide, 15 Picket Balustrade Panels, sold between 24 July 2023 to 20 December 2024, the gap between the post and the first vertical picket on each end of the panel exceeds the allowable 100mm limit specified by the Acceptable Solution F4/AS1 by up to 7mm. This occurs when the panels are installed at a height exceeding 999mm with the result being that compliance with Building Code Clause F4.3.4(g) is not achieved. Published 2025-02-03.
