An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Milwaukee M18™ Redlithium-Ion High Demand™ 9.0ah Battery Pack - SAFETY ALERT. If highly conductive or corrosive fluid (liquid) gets into the battery pack through the vents in sufficient quantities, it can cause the battery pack to short-circuit. Short-circuit can, in extreme situations, result in smoking or fire, even when the battery is not in use. Examples of highly conductive or corrosive fluids include seawater, certain industrial chemicals and bleach or bleach-containing products. Published 2017-09-06.
What to do now
Users are advised to read and add the following safety instructions to the M18B9 battery manual: - Never immerse your tool, battery pack or charger in fluid or allow a fluid to flow inside them. - Conductive or corrosive fluids, such as seawater, certain industrial chemicals, and bleach or bleach containing products, etc., can cause a short circuit. Please follow these instructions to reduce the risk of fire, personal injury, and product damage due to a short circuit.
