An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Life Fitness Powermill. Liquids can potentially enter the electrical connections on the front of the machine. The upgrade responds to reports of electrical arcing originating at the front base of the equipment where the power cord is connected that can result in sparking and smoking, which has led to fire and property damage in overseas markets. The issue arises when liquid enters the power receptacle at the front base of the machine. Published 2018-10-03.
What to do now
If you own a PowerMill Climber, we recommend that the equipment be unplugged when it is unsupervised and there is no one present to detect an issue, particularly when the facility is closed. A Life Fitness service technician will verify if your PowerMill Climber is affected by the recall. If so, a Life Fitness service technician will install a kit to modify the equipment with technology to address the issue of liquid entry at no cost to you. Parts for this upgrade will be available in New Zealand mid-November. Life Fitness will contact you to arrange a suitable time for the work to take place.
