An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Legrand Residual Current Circuit Breaker (safety switch): RX3 RCCB 63A 30mA Type A 2P - sold through trade channels. Legrand is recalling the Residual Current Circuit Breaker (safety switch): RX3 RCCB 63A 30mA Type A 2P because of a risk of electric shock and electrocution. An affected unit may fail to trip in response to certain types of fault current (specifically, pulsating DC residual currents), meaning it may not provide the level of electrocution protection indicated by its markings. This is due to a mixed-batch manufacturing issue. Affected units are internally coded as 100mA Type AC rather than 30mA Type A as marked, providing tripping only for residual sinusoidal alternating current, not for residual pulsating DC currents as required. Published 2026-07-21.

What to do now

Electrical professionals should test with an external RCD tester — this is the only reliable field method for confirming whether a unit is affected. Do not use the integrated test button. A faulty unit will fail to trip at 30mA when tested with an external RCD tester. Ensure the test settings are set to 30mA type A. If you are uncertain whether a unit is affected, treat it as affected. If your unit is affected, contact Legrand and let them know. Once they have identified the full extent of affected units through distributor and installer records and responses to the public Recall Notice, Legrand will collect all potentially affected units and provide replacements at its own cost. The remedy is a free replacement of affected units.
