An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns Canyon e-bike batteries. Following extensive investigation and testing, it was discovered that in certain limited circumstances the affected products can exhibit cracks in the casing allowing the ingress of moisture and leading to possible instability and in extreme cases thermal events up to the battery catching fire - following internal investigation, a risk assessment was performed which indicated the level of risk, which could include a risk of injury to users as "high". This could cause fire and burns. Published 2024-11-13.

The customers were given the instruction to inspect the batteries for cracks and, if any are found, to dispose of the battery - additionally, Canyon Bicycles GmbH's client has set up a service through which customers can have their batteries checked by professionals via video chat or by submitting pictures. Please contact your local council for advice on appropriate battery disposal
