An official Product Safety NZ notice concerns 14 piece Sand Castle Building Set - sold at Kmart. Note 21/07/2026: Kmart have updated this notice. You can contact recalls@mbie.govt.nz for the previous version. Note 3/12/2025: this is not a new product recall. The recall of this product was originally published on 15 November 2025. The notice has been revised to remove three products from recall as set out in a separate notice. The product is being recalled because samples have tested positive for tremolite asbestos. The product may cause a risk to health as asbestos has been detected in some samples after laboratory testing. The release of respirable asbestos fibres is unlikely to occur in its current state, unless the sand is processed by mechanical means such as crushing or pulverising. The risk that any asbestos found, that is likely to be airborne or fine enough for inhalation, is low. Published 2025-12-04.
