An official EU Safety Gate notice concerns Fuse wire 5, 15 &30 Amp Fuse Wire 1. B & Q, 2. Wilkinson, 3. Homebase, 4. Masterplug. Null Incorrect material was used to produce the 5A fuse wire. It should be made of tin-coated copper, however, due to a mix up in the factory, stainless steel wire was used instead. Stainless steel has a different electrical resistance to copper and at normal working current (approximately 2.5A) the fuse wire will glow red hot. Published 2012-03-02.
