High riskHealth Canada

An official Health Canada notice concerns Caterpillar. On certain trucks equipped with a CT 11 or 13 engine, the positive alternator cable may rub against the high pressure power steering hose. Continued contact could wear through the alternator cable's insulation, which could cause an electrical short circuit. An electrical short could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a bracket to route the alternator wires away from the power steering hose. Published 2012-08-07.
