Medium riskHealth Canada

An official Health Canada notice concerns Altec industries. On certain Digger Derricks, the fasteners used to secure the rotation bearing could fail due to stress corrosion cracking caused by improper heat treatment. If this occurs, the boom with the digger attachment could separate from the truck, which could increase the risk of injury to the operator and bystanders. Correction: Customers will be notified to immediately inspect the fasteners and perform a torque inspection. If any fasteners are found broken or break during the torque inspection, the unit must be taken out of service until they are replaced. If none of the fasteners are broken, the unit can stay in service as long as the fasteners are inspected on a daily basis until they are replaced. Published 2018-07-11.
