An official ACCC notice concerns Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific Pty Ltd — Mercedes-Benz X Class MY2018-2019. If the roof loading is in excess of the safe level, and especially if there is a fibreglass canopy installed, the support for the roof load may fail while the vehicle is moving. The roof load may shift unexpectedly and the canopy could break, causing the load to fall. In addition, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) may not be effective in an accident or if the vehicle skids or behaves unexpectedly, increasing the risk of serious injury or death of vehicle occupants or other road users. What to do now
Consumers are requested to contact their most convenient authorised Mercedes-Benz Retailer for a free of charge replacement of the physical operator's manual and a software update to make the necessary corrections to the electronic version of the operator's manual installed in the vehicle. Vehicles in this recall are also recalled in PRA2020/18472 (campaign RC2784) for the same issue. Owners who have had their vehicles checked under this earlier recall will need to have their vehicles repaired again under the later recall.
