An official ACCC notice concerns Mercedes-Benz 639 Vito vans MY2003-2006 with Takata SDI driver airbag. If an affected vehicle is involved in a collision triggering the airbag, or if the airbag mis-deploys, the metal inflator housing may explode/rupture under too much internal pressure. If the faulty airbag inflator ruptures, it can go off with too much explosive force causing sharp metal fragments to shoot out and kill or seriously injure people in the vehicle. There have been serious injuries and deaths caused by faulty Takata airbags. Published 2025-07-08.

Check the attached Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list to see if your vehicle is affected. Do not drive your vehicle under any circumstances if your vehicle is affected. Immediately contact your preferred authorised Mercedes-Benz retailer to schedule an appointment to have the airbag checked and replaced if required. Your Mercedes-Benz retailer will work with you to offer flexible mobility options which may include, towing, taxi/rideshare or onsite mobile inspections, where possible. The airbag replacement and preferred mobility options are free of charge .
