An official ACCC notice concerns Bebitz ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 Flanges. If a brittle fracture occurs due to external stress whilst in use, fluid leakage may occur. It is noted, however, that the specific hazard is application-dependent. Published 2013-09-09.
What to do now
Consumers are urged to: 1. Quarantine any stocked inventory; and 2. Undertake a review of the products as used in current operations and perform a risk assessment to determine whether any controls are required to ensure the safety of personnel and plant. Bebitz has advised that some of the flanges tested returned conforming test results in relation to ASTM A350 and that all flanges conform with ASTM A105. Flanges meeting ASTM A105 are suitable for low temperature applications under certain operating conditions and customers may wish to consider obtaining professional engineering advice to determine whether any or all flanges in operation can safely remain in service. MRC will accept return of unused items on behalf of Bebitz. These items should be returned to the nearest MRC warehouse locations for a full refund.
