An official ACCC notice concerns Baffle Model Slimline Steel Outdoor Rainwater Tanks. Corrosion of the rivets may result in a loss of internal structural support. If the defect occurs and the tank deforms, it may cause the tank to topple and crush bystanders. The following set of circumstances may cause the tank to topple over: • the tank is taller than 1.6m or between 1.3 and 1.6m high but less than 0.87m wide; and • the tank is located against a solid wall; and • there is a severe weather event (heavy rainfall and high winds); and • the tank has rapidly filled with a large volume of water. What to do now
NSW or QLD consumers who believe they may have a Slimline steel outdoor rainwater tank manufactured between mid-2004 and the end of 2006 should arrange for a free inspection by contacting BlueScope toll-free on 1800 646 488 or on-line at http://www.bluescopesteel.com.au/tools-and-resources/bluescope-slimline-rainwater-tanks Owners of tanks requiring rectification will be offered the option of either a replacement tank or a full refund of the purchase price. IMPORTANT • Do not attempt to confirm the identity or inspect the inside of the tank by use of a ladder as this may result in personal injury. • Do not stand or allow others to stand in close proximity to the tank during periods of heavy rain and/or high winds, or if a tank is showing signs of “bulging”.
