Ionizing radiation is known to cause cancer and exposure to Cobalt-60 may result in an increased risk of cancer. Advice obtained from a regulated radiation handling company in the UK advised that an individual would need to wear one of the belts for about 500 hours per year for the effects of that radiation to be felt.
